‘Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)’ Rapper Silento Charged With Murdering His Cousin

Silento, the rapper famous for the popular dance and song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” is behind bars after he was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of his cousin, according to authorities.

The 23-year-old rapper is accused of killing 34-year-old Frederick Rooks, according to DeKalb County police. Silento was booked into the DeKalb County jail on one count of murder, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Authorities discovered the victim in the early hours of January 21st in the Panthersville area suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators said they believed Rooks knew the residents at one of the homes in the area where his body was found.

“However, after a thorough investigation, DKPD detectives identified (Silento) as Rooks’ cousin, and the person responsible for Rooks’ murder,” police said.

Responding officers were able to gather video from multiple residents’ security cameras, according to the incident report. Those videos showed several cars fleeing the scene at high speeds, and the footage captured at least one gunshot.

The report said eight bullet casings were collected at the scene.

Right now, it’s unclear what Silento’s motive was for the shooting, according to authorities.

But this isn’t the first time Silento has had run-ins with the laws. Silento was back in September for a domestic violence incident in California. He was accused of threatening people with a hatchet as he searched for his girlfriend. You can read all about that here.

Then in late October, Silento was arrested and booked into the DeKalb County Jail on charges that he was speeding at more than 140 miles per hour on I-85.

Silento rose to fame as a teenage rap sensation. His “Watch Me” video has been viewed nearly 1.8 billion times on YouTube.
